Kerry's Dance Center - JUNE 2009 Newsletter

Hi Dancers!

The last notice of this dance season already? June is always bitter sweet for me! I am lucky enough to watch an entire year's worth of work come to life before my eyes. To see how much the dance skills have improved and watch the confidence of the students soar is so gratifying. And yet I have to say "goodbye" to 9 dancers as they go off to college and begin the next phase of their lives. Many of these girls have been here for 10 or more years and are, in a sense, like daughters to me! I wish every happiness and success to Haley Mayne, Brianna Perley, Leah Tustin, Nicole Cuerdon, Cayley Lord, Morgan Lingar, Casey McCarthy, Megan Busta and Rebecca Risteen. I expect a visit from each of you next fall (or else!)

As many of you are aware, Miss Katie has started her own dance studio in the Stratham/Greenland area and will not be teaching at KDC at all next season. I am confident that she will do well because of her love of children and her passion for dance. Good luck Miss Katie! We'll miss you!

Thanks so much to all who have volunteered to help at recital in so many ways from ushers and dressing room helpers to concession workers and audience chaperones. I could never do the shows without all of you. I am very grateful. And thank you to all the parents of my dancers. It has been my pleasure to work with all of your children. You can be proud! Although at times it has been challenging to channel their energy - I love that they arrive each week for class with such excitement and enthusiasm! I am sure that this recital will be a huge success!

We can always use more donations of snacks or drinks for the concession stand. If you can help, please just drop your donation at the stand on recital day when you arrive. We will have pizza for sale this year as well. All concession proceeds benefit our dance team members who in the past have raised money for great causes such as breast cancer, food pantries, children's charities and more.

Wisteria Flower Shop will be in the lobby this year again in case you would like to purchase flowers for your dancer.

KDC recital T-shirts (with art work by our very talented Lena DeCosta) will be for sale from now through recital day. Adult T's are $12, Child sizes are $10. Long sleeve adult shirts are $16. KDC zip-up sweatshirts with hoods are $25. I am looking into child sizes on the sweatshirts as requested by many of you.

Recital tickets are now on sale. We have plenty left. No worries! Adults are $15, children 12 & under are $9. Please fill out a ticket request form (found in either waiting room) and leave your request and check payable to KDC, with the teacher. The tickets (next best available), will be sent home with your dancer at their next lesson. I am sorry but we cannot sell tickets during class times any longer, there are too many people needing tickets and we don't want to take too much time out of the class in fairness to the students. Tickets will be sold at rehearsal and recital at the door as well. Please do NOT include ticket money with lesson money or deposits for next season. Thank you! And please be advised that NO REFUNDS will be given on tickets. Sorry!

Pictures will be here in the next few days! I can't wait to see them. I will hand them out during classes. Any pictures not sent home by the time dance ends on the 11th of June will be given out during rehearsals and recitals at the ticket table. This table will be located between Dressing Rooms A & B at rehearsals and will be in the lobby the day of recitals. Beverly Green will be there as usual so please see her. (And yes she is crazy for helping, yet again!) :-) You can also leave video orders and registration forms for the fall with her.

Rehearsal for Show #1 is Tuesday June 16th. Rehearsal for Show #2 is Wednesday June 17th. You should all have received your rehearsal schedule with your specific times on it. Shows are Saturday June 20 at noon (Show 1) and 4:30 pm (Show 2). All rehearsals and shows are at Pinkerton Academy, Derry, New Hampshire. All dancers should enter the side door on rehearsal day - the front will be locked except on recital day. The side entrance is on the right as you look at the Stockbridge Theatre Building and will have a KDC sign on it. Go down the stairs and the dressing rooms will be on your right. You are welcome to wait in this corridor. No Dads in the dressing rooms please.

Mike from Video Talent New England will be at the studio on Wednesday to do some taping for the recital DVD introduction. He will then be backstage on recital day BEFORE the show begins. If your dancer did not bring home the order form - they are available on www.kerrysdancecenter.com along with the 2009-2010 schedule and registration form. Summer camp information is with these forms.

Be sure to check out the photos recently posted on the KDC website by Dan Roberge of Roberge Design. There are some great pictures of the dance teams at competition and some "action shots" of the Nursing Home Performance. Thank you Dan!

As usual, call or e-mail with any concerns or questions regarding classes for next year, rehearsals, recitals and the like. Thank you for another great season (the 21st to be exact!) and remember to "Dance Like No One Is Watching"! Kerry
