June 2018 Newsletter

This is it!! Our last notice of the season. I can not believe the recital is only 2 weeks away!!

The last class will be Monday June 11th. Rehearsals for Show 1 are on June 12th

and for Show 2 June 13th. Please refer to the attached Rehearsal Schedules. Please make a

note as to when your dancer rehearses. The rehearsal schedule line up is the same as the

show.

Lost and Found

PLEASE check the overflowing lost and found baskets in the studios.

Any items left after June 11th will be donated.

 

2018/19 Dance Schedule

Please note: There have been classes added to the upcoming season. And a few time

changes.Please return as soon as possible to secure your spot as classes fill up quick.

NEW THIS SEASON: Registration Fee $25 per student (family cap $40). Registration forms

and costume deposits received prior to July 31st Registration Fees will be waived . We

appreciate your understanding with this matter.

 

Parents of Tiny Dancers

You are welcome to stay with your dancer backstage if it makes them or you feel more

comfortable. If your dancer is performing in Act 1, please bring them to their dressing room

upon your arrival to the theatre. During intermission you will be able to go backstage to get

them so they can watch the rest of the show. If your dancer is performing in Act 2, they can

sit on your lap for the first half then please bring them backstage to their dressing room

during intermission. They will remain there until the end and be able to go back onto the

stage with their teacher and group to take a bow. ANY dancers are welcome to come

backstage that are in the audience before Finale to line up to take a bow (we encourage it!).

Recital DVD’s

We have a NEW videographer and KDC is thrilled to welcome Mike Shaw to video our

shows. You will be able to order online or download the form from the site and send a

check (instructions on the form). There is a 10% discount off all orders OR a 20% discount

on all orders with multiple items. These end after midnight on June 15th and apply to

online orders. After June 16 multiple item sales receive a 10% discount.

Recital T-Shirts

2018 “A Tribute to the Silver Screen” Recital T-Shirts are available in Studio 1 for purchase.

Child: $15 Adult: $18

I ordered larger adult sizes. The adult t-shirts ran very small. We have XL now available.

 

Recital Bouquets

Tiger Lilies Floral Boutique will be providing a variety of beautiful floral bouquets for sale

during both shows. There will be plenty of flowers available for purchase before and after

the show. Payment in the form of cash, check and credit card will be accepted at both

shows.

Dancing Daisy Bouquet: $15

A mix of 4 brightly colored gerbera’s with purple filler and greenery wrapped in a tutu skirt

Budding Ballerina Blue-quet: $15

Blue hydrangea with baby’s breath wrapped in a tutu skirt

Encore Rose Bouquet: $20

A mix of 4 pink and purple roses with baby’s breath wrapped with a tutu skirt

 

Recital Tickets

Pre-Recital Purchase: Adults $18 and Children 12 and under $15

At the Door (day of the show): Adults $20 and Children 12 and under $15

There are request forms in both studios to purchase tickets. They will be available for pick

up at the rehearsals. The request forms will be filled until the last class. Tickets will be

available for purchase at the rehearsals. They will also be available the day of the show

(please note the price difference above).

SUMMER FUN at KDC

It’s not too late!!

Summer Dance Camp (theme TBA) ages 12+ will be July 16-July 20 from 9:30 am-12:30 p.m.

Fairy Dance Camp for ages 4-6 will be July 23-July 27 from 9am-Noon.

Summer Dance Camp (theme “RIO”) for ages 7-11 will be July 30-Aug 3 from 9am-Noon.

Dance Camps are $120 per week.

Dance Intensives July 9, 16, 23 & 30 with Ms Lena for ages 12+. Mondays 3:00 pm-4:00 pm

$20 per class or $70 for 4 weeks

Classical Ballet and Mondays 4:15 pm-6:15 pm

$15 per class or $50 for 4 weeks

Chester Town Fair

KDC will participate in the Chester Town Fair September 8th.

You are ALL invited to walk in the parade wearing your favorite costume.

● Write your name in ALL of your belongings (ie: dance shoes)

● Always check the Lost & Found baskets in each studio

● Do not chew gum in class

● PLEASE write your dancer’s name in the memo of the check. Cash should be in a

sealed envelope with the dancer’s name on the outside. Tuition is due the first of

every month and must be paid by the 15th to avoid a late fee.

● PLEASE do not allow your children to play in ANY of the driveways or on the rock

wall. Thank you for your understanding.

April 2018 Newsletter

Spring is here!!!!! And it is hard to believe that the  recital is right around the corner!!

Rehearsal schedules will be sent with the May Monthly Newsletter.

 

COSTUMES

ALL costumes have been given to the dancers. PLEASE take it out of its bag and hang it somewhere safe. We have included accessories and tights. So keep it all together.  Check with your teacher about shoes needed for each dance.

 

PLEASE Check the lost and found!!

Any items left in there after April 21st will be donated.

PHOTO DAY

The photo schedule is attached.

Please let your teacher know if you will not be attending.

Recreational Dance photos will be in Studio 1 April 14th from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(*Please note: Saturday classes on April 14th will be held in Studio 2.)

Please make every effort to attend, even just to be in the group picture. Ordering photos will be a little different this year. There will not be an order form to fill out and return like the past. After the shoot and editing Ryan will then provide to me a link to the KDC Master Gallery to share with the studio. You will be able to pick and choose (Ala Carte) what you want to order. Student Choreographers

Student choreographers are welcome to try out their piece for Ms Jennie anytime between now and April 18th. The dance must be complete before auditioning. The dance must not be more than 3 minutes long. The music needs to be appropriate. If there is a question please see a teacher for music approval before starting your piece. We are happy to help with costuming. We have LOTS of costumes in the KDC attic to borrow!

 

Recital Tickets

Recital tickets go on sale Saturday, April 21st from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.

Pre-Recital Purchase: Adults $18 and Children 12 and under $15

At the Door (day of the show): Adults $20 and Children 12 and under $15

There will be request forms in both studios to purchase tickets if you can not make it the day they go on sale. Those will be filled AFTER the day of the sale and given to you at the following class. Tickets WILL NOT be sold during classes as this takes time away from our students. The request forms will be filled up until the last class. Tickets will be available for purchase at the rehearsals. They will also be available the day of the show (please note the price above).

Dance Team Auditions will be held in Studio 1 Saturday April 21st at  1 p.m. styles include classical ballet, lyrical/contemporary, jazz, hip hop, and tap.

Classical ballet 1-1:25

Lyrical/contemporary- 1:25-1:50

Jazz-1:50-2:15

Hip hop- 2:15-2:40

Tap 2:40-2:55

Our Team dancers get additional performance opportunities including a nursing home performance, the town parade, attend competitions each spring, and other fun activities.

March 2018 Newsletter

They aren’t kidding when they say March comes in like a lion! We are not out of the clear yet. So please continue to follow the “Snow Days” procedure below.  

SNOW DAYS

Just as a reminder. If Chester School is cancelled due to severe weather, daytime classes (before 3:30 p.m.) will automatically be cancelled.  However, this does NOT necessarily mean that evening dance classes are cancelled.  We will send you an e-mail message by 2:00 p.m. if we are going to cancel classes for the night.  If class is cancelled, your dancer is welcome to makeup any age appropriate class at any time. That is also applicable with any absence (ie: sickness,vacation, etc).

If your dancer has brought home their costume, PLEASE take it out of its bag and hang it somewhere safe. We included accessories and tights. Photo Days are as follows:

Dance Team photos will be in Studio 2 on March 24th from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Recreational Dance photos will be in Studio 1 April 14th from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

January 2018 Notice

Happy New Year!!!! I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season as much as I did!! Visiting family, catching up with friends, laughing, some relaxing, and treats! Lots of treats!! I was so thankful for every minute of it. Life is short, don’t waste a second of it! Live life, love unconditionally and appreciate every precious moment (especially with family).

December 2017 Newsletter

We hope you all had a happy, relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for especially for our KDC family. With winter months approaching there are a few reminders. The first is snow days.   If Chester School is cancelled due to severe weather, daytime classes (before 3:30 p.m.) will automatically be cancelled.  However, this does NOT necessarily mean that evening dance classes are cancelled.  We will send you an e-mail message by 2:00 p.m. if we are going to cancel classes for the night.  If class is cancelled, your dancer is welcome to makeup any age appropriate class at any time. That is also applicable with any absence (ie: sickness,vacation, etc).  Holiday vacations are also approaching.  Please mark your calendars with the dates below.

 

  • KDC will be CLOSED from December 24th to January 1st

 

KDC Christmas Parties will be held from December 18th to December 23rd (Please NO cake, cupcakes or frosted treats! Cookies, fruit, cheese and crackers are great)In lieu of teacher gifts please donate a nonperishable food item that will be donated to the Chester Food Pantry. There will be baskets in each studio to drop off any canned food you would like to donate. Thank you in advance for your support.

 

Statements are emailed monthly.  Please make every effort to pay your tuition by the 15th to avoid late charges. December statements will include costume balances. Please contact Ms Jennie with any questions regarding your account.

It’s hard to believe it’s November already.  The dancers have settled right into their classes.  Our teachers have picked out music, costumes and have already started choreography.  With winter months approaching there are a few reminders. September/ October Newsletter 2017

Kerry’s Dance Center September/October 2017 Notice

Welcome back dancers!!  Kerry’s Dance Center is celebrating its 30th Season. Our theme this year is “A Tribute to the Silver Screen”.  Our music selections will be from movies new and old and we are very excited with lots of fun ideas!

As most of you know Ms Kerry has retired and Ms Jennie is the new owner and director of Kerry’s Dance Center.  Not much has changed and the transition has been very smooth.  Thanks to a great staff, supportive parents and amazing dancers.  We do ask that you remain patient as we settle into our new roles.

We kicked off the new season with two summer dance camps with Ms Jennie, four weeks of dance intensives with Ms Lena, Level 2-4 Dance Teams early jump on classes in August with Ms Lena and Ms Sarah, and last but not least the Chester Town Fair.  We are now working on music choices, choreography, and costumes for the 2017/18 dance season.  

 

Please note there are a few changes and additions to the schedule:

Wednesday 4:45pm – 4:45pm  Level 2/3 Hip Hop Team is in Show 2

Saturday 11:20am – 12:20pm Pre-Dance is in Show 2

 

Additional Classes added to the schedule:

Wednesday 4:00pm – 4:00pm  Level 1/2 Tap Team – Show 1

Tuesday 5:10pm – 5:55pm  Beginner Ballet I ages 6+ – Show 1 (openings available!)

Thursday 7:30pm-8:15pm Musical Theatre ages 12+ (openings available!)

 

Is your dancer having a blast at dance so far?  We are having “Bring a Friend” week starting Monday, October 9th through Saturday, October 14th.  Friends are invited to participate in class that week for FREE!

KDC May Notice

As many of you already know, this is my last year as Owner and Director of KDC. The very capable and efficient Miss Jennie will be continuing in my place.  I want to thank ALL of the students and parents as well as teachers and assistants that have made my job so enjoyable these past 29 years!  Everyone should have as much fun working as I had. My husband and I are fortunate enough to work less and travel around in our motorhome more at this stage of our lives. If there is 1 piece of advice that I would like to pass along it’s that we shouldn’t wait.  Do it NOW. Whatever your “it” is.  Tell your kids and friends how much you love them, and have a little bit of fun EVERYDAY!  Don’t wait! Your chance to do something may pass you by.  I have never heard anyone regret having too much fun.  Life is a roller coaster ride and I am so happy I bought a ticket! Thank you for everything. I will miss you all! 

Please make every effort to pay any Tuition Due to Miss Kerry by June 15th.  She will be closing out the books before turning everything over to Miss Jennie on July 1st.  It will be greatly appreciated if you pay any September costume deposits or Summer Camp money in a check separate from any monies owed for THIS dance season ending with our June 17, 2017 recital.  Thank you for your cooperation in keeping the 2 dance seasons separate.

Walter Anthony Productions will do Recital DVDs again this year.  An order form and website will be provided shortly via e-mail so that you can place your order for Blu-Ray or regular DVD’s of the entire recital.  These will be mailed to you approximately 3 weeks after the June 17th shows.  Pinkerton Academy prohibits the use of video cameras and flash photography during any of its performances.

Flowers will be available for purchase in the lobby the day of recital in case you’d like to surprise your dancer after her performance. Tiger Lilies Floral Boutique will be providing some beautiful choices. An order form for flowers will be e-mailed to you shortly.

Backstage Help is always needed. We could never do it without all our wonderful volunteers. Please respond to this e-mail if you can help with any of the following. Any volunteers will be given a free ticket to the show. Thank you in advance!  Ushers are needed 45 minutes prior to the start of each show to collect tickets, hand out programs, and direct people to their reserved seat. On Saturday June 17th Show 1 begins at noon so ushers for that show are needed at 11:15am.  Show 2 begins at 4pm so ushers are needed at 3:15pm. Audience Chaperones are also needed.  These volunteers are asked to sit in the “student seating section” of the audience with any students that are watching the half of the show in which they are not performing. Dressing Room help is always appreciated from any moms.

Parents of our tiny dancers are always welcome to stay with your student backstage if it makes her (or you) more comfortable. If your tiny dancer is performing in Act 2 we ask that she sit on your lap in the audience during Act 1. At intermission you should bring your dancer backstage to her assigned dressing room. If your dancer performs in Act 1, please bring her to the dressing room upon your arrival to the theatre. After she dances you can go backstage to the dressing room and get her so she can sit on your lap and watch the rest of the show.  The classroom assistant will stay with the dancers so you can go sit in the audience and watch her performance if that works for you. The little ones LOVE to watch the “big girls” dance and this is their only opportunity to see any of the show.

Dance Team Members are asked to donate items for the Concession Stand and sell items during Intermission and between shows. Water, juice and soda plus granola bars, crackers and baked goods are all very popular and very much appreciated. Any items you donate will be sold for a small price and proceeds will benefit the dance teams. Dancers – don’t make your mom do the baking.  I’m sure many of you have baking as well as dancing talent! Miss Lena gave all of you an “Intermission Help” form in class. Please be sure to return that to her ASAP so we know we can count on you to help. Thank you!

Dance Team Tryouts for 2017/2018: Tryouts will be held Friday May 12th at 7pm in Studio 2! If you are already on team you DO NOT have to try out again, BUT you DO have to try out if you want to be considered for another genre of dance. All ages are welcome to try out!

Recital Tickets: Tickets will go on sale Saturday May 13th in Studio 2 from 9am to Noon! Prices: $17 for Adults. $13 for children 12 years old and under.

Other Reminders: The 2017/2018 Dance Schedule is up on the website! If you already know the classes you want to take next season, we have an early bird special! If you have your registration in BEFORE August 1st with costume deposit, you will receive 10 dollars off your first month’s tuition.

Happy Spring Everyone! Rehearsals and Recital is coming up very quickly, so try your best to attend all your classes! This is the big countdown now, so try not to let spring fever get in the way of missing class! KDC will be CLOSED from April 24th to the 29th for April vacation! Don’t forget picture day is April 15th! Bring your smiles (:

Student Choreography Tryouts: If you wish to try out, please see Miss J to schedule a time when the both of you are at the studio before or after class. Tryouts need to be completed by April 21st. Your dance piece must be finished and no longer than 3 minutes. Your music must be appropriate as well.

Picture Day Reminders: Please come to your photo prepared with your costume on, and hair and makeup already done! Let Mrs. Jennie know if you will NOT be attending. Paperwork needs to be in by Monday April 10th. If you are not purchasing photos, still come to the group photo. It’s nice to have all the dancers present for that. The group photo is only $15 each! Please make sure you are filling out 1 form per costume. You will still be able to take advantage of the 2 Pose Package.
